Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Nord Stream 2 – Green MP sues state government

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The energy policy spokesman for the Greens parliamentary group in the state parliament, Hannes Damm, is complaining to the state constitutional court against the state government because of what he believes to be a lack of transparency in the matter of Nord Stream 2 and the climate foundation. The reason for the recently filed lawsuit was the lack of information when answering a small inquiry about contacts, meetings and correspondence from the state government relating to the MV climate foundation and the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the Greens said on Monday. This may have violated the rights of MPs.

"Only a government that acts transparently is a democratically controllable government," said Damm, according to the statement. If the state government is not prepared to provide complete information, the only option is to go to the constitutional court. "The state constitution gives us MPs a right to information so that we can do our work." The answers to his small request were "demonstrably incomplete". Important documents and meetings between the country's highest-ranking politicians and lobbyists are being withheld, Damm said.

According to the deputy, "the lack of transparency by Manuela Schwesig and the state government on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and the scandal foundation" damages democracy. "While Nord Stream 2 employees have been shown to be closely involved in the so-called climate foundation processes, the press and democratically elected MPs have had to fight a wall of silence for months."
