Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Because work on the Rügen Bridge is progressing well, the most important connection to the island of Rügen can be temporarily released on Wednesday. If necessary, remaining work could be done on Thursday, said a spokesman for the State Office for Road Construction and Transport on Tuesday. Then that would be the last day for the time being with a closure between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. As in the past few days, drivers have to switch to the Rügendamm during this time.
This week and last week, the bridge was again closed during the day due to work on the traffic control system. According to the state office, electrical displays above the roadway were replaced. The bridge had already been closed to the exchange of advertisements in June, and twice in the past year. This year it should be the last corresponding closure before the work is then to be continued in the coming year. The work on the sensitive technology can therefore only take place in good weather.
