Radebeul/Dresden (dpa/sn) - One day after the attack on a police officer in Radebeul (Meissen district), a man from Dresden was sentenced to a fine for dangerous bodily harm. In the course of an accelerated procedure, 150 daily rates of 10 euros were imposed on the 50-year-old, as the Dresden public prosecutor announced on Friday. The man had slightly injured the officer the day before during school training with first graders. The German is said to have disrupted the training with the engine running and, despite being asked to do so, refused to continue driving his van. When the officer removed the key from the ignition, the driver sprayed pepper spray in his eyes. According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused "essentially" admitted that the verdict was final.
With the help of the accelerated procedure, criminal offenses can be punished more quickly. In contrast to normal criminal proceedings, when there is clear evidence, the charge is made orally, the person concerned is summoned within 24 hours and the matter is immediately heard before a criminal judge or a court of lay judges.
