After MS diagnosis: Christina Applegate returns to the spotlight

As "dumb" Kelly Bundy, she once made a whole generation laugh. But in her private life Christina Applegate is shaken by several strokes of fate. So she announced last year that she had MS. But now she is back with her head held high.

Last year, Christina Applegate made it public that she had multiple sclerosis (MS). Now the actress says she is preparing for a special day.

"A very important ceremony is coming up," explains the 50-year-old in a tweet. "This will be my first performance since being diagnosed with MS. Canes are now my new normal," she writes. In addition, she posted a picture of different models that were available to her as a walking aid. The actress promises that her fans will still find out which of these "beauties" she will choose in the end.

In August 2021, Applegate also tweeted about her illness: "I was diagnosed with MS a few months ago. It's been a strange journey. But I've had so much support from people I know who also have the disease . It's been a tough road. But, as we all know, there's always a way forward. Unless some asshole blocks it."

The MS diagnosis wasn't the first tragedy Applegate had to deal with. In 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at a very early stage. At that time, Applegate decided on a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. In 2017, she also had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a precaution.

Born in Los Angeles in 1971, Applegate began her acting career as a child in the early 1980s. Her big break came in the role of Kelly "Dumper" Bundy on the hit sitcom Awfully Nice Family, which ran between 1987 and 1997. This was followed by a successful career in numerous film and television formats. Since 2019 she can be seen in the Netflix series "Dead To Me".
