Weil am Rhein (dpa/lsw) - Customs officials found a sports bag full of cash on a man at the Weil am Rhein border crossing. The 38-year-old from Hesse allegedly wanted to smuggle a total of almost 58,000 euros into Switzerland, as the main customs office announced on Wednesday. The incident happened in mid-November.
A few days later, officials managed a very similar catch. A 53-year-old woman from Bavaria, who wanted to enter Switzerland from Switzerland, had almost 40,000 euros in her handbag - also unannounced.
If you want to leave Germany with cash worth 10,000 euros or more and go to a non-EU country or vice versa, you must declare the amount to customs.
