Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The hospitals in North Rhine-Westphalia have been reducing the number of beds in specialist departments for children since 2018. At the same time, the number of children across the country has increased during the period, as the State Statistical Office IT.NRW announced on Wednesday.
Accordingly, the number of beds in the main departments of paediatrics, pediatric cardiology, neonatology and pediatric surgery fell by 5.5 percent from 2018 (4797) to 2021 (4532). At the same time, the number of children and young people under the age of 15 in NRW increased by 2.6 percent from 2018 to 2021.
