Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the debate about the successor to Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), Baden-Württemberg's Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) certified his party colleague Cem Özdemir as fundamentally suitable for the office. "Cem Özdemir is doing a great job as Federal Minister of Agriculture, but of course he also has everything that a successful Prime Minister needs," Bayaz told the Baden-Württemberg State Gazette (Friday).
Kretschmann had announced that he no longer wanted to run for office in the 2026 state elections. Bayaz and Özdemir from Bad Urach are traded as successors, among others. Both belong not only to the Realo wing of the party, but also have private connections: Özdemir was best man at the wedding of Bayaz and the Bavarian Green parliamentary group leader Katharina Schulze in July.
