Baden-Württemberg: Corona and prices: people without a home are more in need

For homeless people, the coronavirus pandemic has made life even harder than it already is. As soon as the number of infections decreases, those affected are put under pressure by a new crisis: everything becomes expensive, including housing. That has consequences.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The rising prices and the acute situation have driven the number of people without a home and in need of housing in Baden-Württemberg to the highest level in at least three decades. "Never before have more citizens been dependent on the help of the providers of homeless and delinquent assistance," said the League of Independent Welfare Care as the umbrella organization of welfare organizations such as Caritas and the Paritätisches Baden-Württemberg. The corona pandemic had already hit this group with force, the costs for electricity, gas and daily needs are now putting people under even more pressure.

The state government, but also the urban and rural districts, must meet their responsibility for the situation of homeless people, the league demanded. "It's time to act now." Concrete figures and further demands are to be presented today (10.00) in Stuttgart.

According to their own statements, the eleven associations organized in the league are the largest providers of social work services in Baden-Württemberg. They represent more than 390,000 employees in around 10,000 facilities and services.
