Baden-Württemberg: Criticism of the strict mask requirement in facilities for the disabled

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The criticism of the strict mask requirement in facilities for the disabled does not stop. The state government’s Disability Officer, Simone Fischer, complained in Stuttgart on Friday about the corresponding regulation in the Infection Protection Act. This is a disproportionate invasion of privacy. "For example, while the new law states that masks are not compulsory on airplanes, where people meet randomly, disabled people are required to wear the mask in their homes, where residents live together consistently."

People with disabilities did not automatically belong to the vulnerable group, even if they worked in a workshop or lived in an institution. A differentiated view is absolutely necessary. "It remains to be seen whether the last word has been spoken here."

The new Infection Protection Act stipulates a strict FFP2 mask requirement for people in the facilities who live or work there. The mask can therefore only be removed in the room and must be worn in common rooms, for example.

Social Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) also criticized the regulation. He considers such a requirement neither necessary nor compatible with people's right to self-determination and social participation due to the associated burdens for residents in nursing homes or special forms of living, also with a view to the upcoming autumn and winter. "I very much regret that our criticism of this requirement was not heard."
