Money for drugs and debt: murder for 250 euros - man convicted in Hamburg

In Hamburg, a man is behind bars for committing a treacherous murder: he stabs a man he met in a pub to steal his cash. He uses the money to buy drugs, among other things.

The Hamburg district court has sentenced a 47-year-old to life imprisonment for a treacherous robbery and murder for 250 euros. According to a court spokesman, the competent chamber saw it as proven that after visiting a bar together, he had stabbed a 62-year-old in a park near the St. Michael's Church known as Michel. The penniless defendant used his loot to pay off drink and drug debts and bought new drugs.

According to the court, the perpetrator and the victim met one evening in March in a pub near the scene of the crime and initially drank beer together. The accused noticed that his companion had a large sum of cash with him. When the 62-year-old left the pub later, he accompanied him and attacked him in the park with a knife.

After the crime, the accused returned to the bar to pay off his debts with the money stolen from his victim. He also bought drugs. The verdict was for treacherous murder in conjunction with a robbery resulting in death. Because of the suspect's drug addiction, the court also ordered him to be placed in a rehab clinic. Only after the end of his stay there will he be transferred to a prison for the remainder of his sentence.

The verdict essentially corresponded to the demands of the public prosecutor's office and the accessory prosecutor, who, however, had also pleaded for the determination of the so-called special gravity of the guilt. The defense only assumed a threatening act and demanded a suspended sentence.

The accused had rejected the murder accusation at the start of the trial about two weeks ago and described a different version of the processes. He was attacked by the victim in the park, which is why he pulled a knife. Then there was a scuffle, at the end of which the knife stuck in the neck of the dead man. However, the court did not follow the statements.

The dead man was discovered the night of the crime by a passer-by who called the police. The 47-year-old from Italy, who lived very close to the scene of the crime, was arrested the next day in a Hamburg hotel.
