Baden-Württemberg: Customs found three puppies and a dozen mice in the car

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Three small puppies were discovered by Stuttgart customs officials without the necessary vaccinations, without pet passports and unsecured in the back seat of a car. Since the animals, which were only a few weeks old, came with a family from Romania and were too young for the vaccinations required for import, they were initially quarantined at the Esslingen animal shelter. As the main customs office announced on Wednesday, the officials also found a good dozen mice in the car at the Denkdorf rest area. Since the rodents were sitting in a tool box with no air holes, the officials had to intervene here too. After "adjustment of the transport conditions", as the statement said, the mice were allowed to continue their journey with the family.

It is still being determined whether the puppies were in the car as family dogs or whether they were to be sold illegally.
