Baden-Württemberg: "Didn't want to harm him": "Blood thinner" process

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) - Because she is said to have tried to kill her partner with blood thinners, a 58-year-old nurse is on trial in Freiburg. The defendants are accused of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm. The trial began on Thursday before the district court's jury chamber and is expected to last until April 4.

The indictment alleges that the woman stirred the medication into the man's food or drink. The aim was to stop the blood from clotting – the man could ultimately have bled to death from internal injuries. In September last year he went to the doctor - and then came to a hospital in acute danger of life.

In court, the 58-year-old admitted to having given the man pills three times. "I didn't want to hurt him so much," the woman said, visibly moved. In a serious relationship crisis, on the other hand, she aimed to get the seriously ill man – he had previously had a stomach rupture, among other things – to go into rehabilitation treatment. The defendant is in custody for the allegations.

"I was afraid of this person," she said, referring to the partner she had been with since 2006. "I was at the end of my strength." She took the pills with her from her job in a clinic. She said that in February last year she made sure that the man received emergency medical treatment for the gastric perforation.

Crimes of this kind often come to court. In Bavaria, a woman was sentenced to ten years in prison around five years ago because she wanted to kill her husband with blood thinners.
