Baden-Württemberg: First half of the year: Southwest industry is stagnating

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Industry in the southwest made no progress in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year. As the State Statistical Office reported on Monday in Stuttgart based on preliminary figures, the south-west industry recorded a price-adjusted and daily-adjusted minus of 0.7 percent in orders in the first half of the year. Production fell by 0.4 percent and sales by 0.1 percent.

In June, incoming orders fell significantly by 9.2 percent compared to the same month last year. However, the extraordinarily high order volume in 2021 makes the development here appear worse than it is, the statisticians said. The order volume is still high. Production increased slightly by 0.2 percent and sales increased by 2.5 percent.

With regard to current difficulties with energy imports or existing delivery problems, the prospects for the coming months remain uncertain, according to the statisticians.

Around 1.157 million people worked in industrial companies in June. That was 12,900 more employees than in the same month last year, as reported by the State Statistical Office. This corresponds to an increase of 1.1 percent.
