Baden-Württemberg: Half of the people in the state fear energy-saving measures

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to a survey, almost half of the people in Baden-Württemberg fear that their municipality will take cost-cutting measures because of the energy crisis, which will burden them personally. This concern is widespread, especially in the big cities. This was the result of a survey by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy on behalf of the daily newspapers in the south-west. For the so-called BaWü check, the institute interviewed more than 1,000 adults in the country in August.

Nevertheless, the majority of people support the measures of their own city or community to save energy: Three quarters of the population think it is a good idea not to illuminate or illuminate public buildings at night. Almost 60 percent consider it appropriate that public buildings are only heated to a maximum of 19 degrees. And a good half of the people support the proposal to switch off the street lights earlier. On the other hand, there was little support for the proposals to temporarily close swimming pools, thermal baths or saunas or to cancel folk festivals and Christmas markets.

Only a fifth of the people in the country look forward to the next twelve months with hope - fewer than in any "BaWü" check before. The impression that there have been new crises since the beginning of the corona pandemic without the previous ones having been resolved is responsible for this historic low.

Above all, the citizens want state politics to ensure sufficient affordable housing and enough nursing staff. For every second one, the promotion of environmental and climate protection is one of the most important political tasks of state politics. A large proportion of people also see fighting crime in the country as a priority.
