Baden-Württemberg: In the case of property tax, there is a postponement for owners in the southwest

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Owners of private property in the southwest de facto have more time to submit their property tax returns. Actually, the so-called declaration of determination must be submitted by the end of October. The finance ministry in Stuttgart announced that the reminders of defaulting property owners would not be sent out until the first quarter of next year. The finance ministers of the federal and state governments will discuss whether the deadline at the end of October will also be officially extended in the coming week, said a spokesman in Stuttgart.

From 2025 onwards, a new property tax calculation is to apply. This is done on the basis of information that owners now have to submit. From the beginning of July to this Wednesday, 27 percent of the more than four million homeowners in the southwest had made their declaration, the Treasury said. Most recently, it was said that many more declarations would be expected shortly before the deadline.

In mid-July, the Elster control platform experienced technical difficulties and was temporarily unavailable. The Federal Chamber of Tax Advisors and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce then demanded an extension of the submission deadline.

According to the will of the tax authorities, the declaration of determination must be submitted electronically. Paper forms should only be permitted in exceptional cases. According to the Ministry of Finance in Stuttgart - unlike in other federal states - only the file number, the property area, the standard land value and possibly the predominant use for residential purposes are queried. The standard land value is determined by the expert committee of the respective municipality. It reflects the average location value of the floor in euros per square meter within a specific area. Information about the type of property, the living and usable area or the year of construction is not required.
