Freiburg im Breisgau (dpa / lsw) - A 29-year-old man who is said to have shot his ex-girlfriend's partner during a dispute in Freiburg is now in custody. The suspect has not yet commented on the crime, the police and prosecutors said on Monday.

The suspect, a German, was arrested by the police on Saturday after an escape. He is said to have previously argued in front of his ex-partner's apartment with her 31-year-old partner. According to the investigators, the 29-year-old was accompanied by a family member. The alleged attacker is accused of having shot the 31-year-old once with a gun. The victim died in a clinic.

The suspect was arrested without resistance after a family member called 911 to say that the fugitive wanted to turn himself in. The murder weapon was only found on Sunday in a bush near the place of arrest.

In the search for the man, a tram was stopped and checked, among other things. The suspect was already known to the police for violent crimes, a police spokeswoman said.
