Baden-Württemberg: Police dogs are now also sniffing out cash in the state

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The 13 police chiefs in Baden-Württemberg are gradually receiving police dogs that can sniff out hidden cash. This was announced by Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) on Friday in Stuttgart. "In the future, the sniffer dogs will provide strong support to the criminal investigation work as new four-legged investigators." This was preceded by a pilot project in which several police dogs were trained to become banknote detection dogs. You can build on the pre-training to become a drug detection dog.

In September, during a search in Singen, "Amon" from the Ravensburg police headquarters sniffed out around 50,000 euros in cash in a massive wooden chest of drawers, although the banknotes had been hidden and built in with great finesse. Such dogs have been in use at customs for a long time.

In total, there are around 390 police dogs in the country. There are specially trained narcotics, explosives, corpse, incendiary and person detection dogs.
