Baden-Württemberg: police officer shoots man at playground: condition stable

Weinheim (dpa / lsw) - After using a police weapon right next to a playground in Weinheim (Rhein-Neckar district), the state of health of the injured 34-year-old is stable. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) did not provide more detailed information on the severity of his injuries on Tuesday. In the incident on Monday, when the police were called because of a dispute between two men, one of the officers fired a shot. One of the opponents was hit.

At the time, there were several people on the playground itself, especially mothers with children. Exactly how many was not disclosed. According to the current status, they were not in danger from the operation. The investigations continued.

After the men got into an argument, parents called the police. The LKA also initially did not want to say anything about the background to the dispute.

According to previous knowledge, the police wanted to control the men. The 34-year-old is said to have pulled a knife and attacked the officers. They initially used pepper spray, but this had no effect. A police officer then fired the shot. In cases of police officers using firearms, it is common for the LKA to take over the investigation.
