Thuringia: warning strike in the public sector in Thuringia started

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Before the second round of negotiations in the public service wage conflict, employees in Thuringia also went on a warning strike on Tuesday. According to initial information from the Verdi union, 350 strikers gathered for a rally at the fish market in Erfurt. They then marched through the city to the strike bar.

The union had called on employees of the local city administration, the municipal waste disposal companies in Erfurt and Weimar, from savings banks, the employment agency and the Bundeswehr location in Erfurt to the all-day warning strike. Two kindergartens in Erfurt are closed because of the strike.

In collective bargaining for federal and local employees, the unions are demanding 10.5 percent more money, but at least 500 euros for a period of 12 months. The second round of negotiations in the collective bargaining dispute for around 2.5 million public sector employees across Germany is planned for Wednesday and Thursday in Potsdam. The municipal employers have so far rejected the union demands as economically unmanageable.
