Baden-Württemberg: Supplier Marquardt expands production in Thuringia

Rietheim-Weilheim/Arnstadt (dpa/lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg family company Marquardt is reacting to the trend towards electric mobility and is expanding its production in Thuringia. Marquardt Management SE announced on Friday that new buildings and production facilities would be erected in Thuringia's largest industrial area "Erfurter Kreuz". The reason is the increasing demand for battery management systems. More than 300 new jobs would be created.

The company, which specializes in mechatronic components, explained that the start of construction is still planned for autumn. A three-digit million amount is to be invested. The company did not give an exact number. The new plant is scheduled to start operations at the end of 2024.

The CEO of the Marquardt Group, Harald Marquardt, explained that the company location in Thuringia plays a central role in the field of electric mobility. "Not least because of the high level of industry expertise in the region and the close connection to the Erfurter Kreuz, we feel encouraged to invest sustainably in this location". Battery management systems are used to maximize the range of electric cars while increasing battery life.

According to the company, it is currently looking for 200 new employees. The 300 jobs around the new plant would be added.

According to the family company, it moved into its first hall in Ichtershausen near Arnstadt in 2019 and set up production. 180 employees are currently producing light components that signal drivers with light signals warnings, incoming calls or the charge status of the battery.
