Baden-Württemberg: The coalition argues about the demand for a change of course in the budget

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - For her call for a change of course in the budgetary policy of the green-black government, Green Party leader Lena Schwelling has to take heavy criticism from the coalition partner. "Anyone who wants to incur more and more new debts in times of almost ten percent inflation, puts out fires with petrol," criticized the Baden-Württemberg CDU General Secretary Isabell Huber sharply on Thursday. It's more about "solidity, reliability and a clear course". The "black zero" must stand, the debt brake must not be leveraged.

In a conversation with the German Press Agency, Schwelling had previously demanded that the country use an exception clause in the debt brake in order to be able to advance the traffic turnaround and thus climate protection more quickly. "I'm all for investing," said the Green Party leader.

Green-Black wants to comply with the debt brake in the 2023/2024 double budget and sees relatively little scope for investments due to the burden of the Ukraine war. The Budget Commission, led by Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), will meet next Monday.
