Baden-Württemberg: Verdi is on strike at the airport on Friday

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Stuttgart Airport is expecting massive effects due to the all-day warning strike announced for Friday. A spokeswoman said on Wednesday passengers should check if their flights are going ahead and allow more time. The security check staff was also called on to go on warning strike. This will definitely lead to waiting times. 162 take-offs and landings are planned for Friday. There was no information about possible cancellations of flights.

In March 2022, there was a temporary work stoppage as part of a wage dispute at Stuttgart Airport. At that time, 50 departures were planned. 22 had been carried out, the rest had failed, said an airport spokeswoman.

For next Friday, the Verdi union had announced that it wanted to paralyze the airports in Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Hanover and Bremen all day. In doing so, it expands the collective bargaining dispute in the public sector at airports. The employees of the operating companies are often paid according to the collective agreements of the municipalities.

The warning strike is scheduled to begin early Friday morning and end on Saturday night. Aid deliveries to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria are said to be exempt from the strike.
