Bavaria: 78-year-old drives against the railway barrier

Grub am Forst (dpa / lby) - A closed railway barrier has overlooked a 78-year-old driver in Upper Franconia. The woman drove her car into the barrier and pushed the barrier up, the police said on Thursday. The woman is said to have told the officers that she had been blinded by the low sun.

After the accident on Wednesday morning at a level crossing in Grub am Forst (Coburg district), her car only stopped shortly before the tracks. The 78-year-old was not injured. Rail traffic was also not affected, said a police spokesman. The level crossing and the car were damaged in the accident. According to conservative estimates, the officials assume a total damage of 7,000 euros.
