Bavaria: Deadline for proposal for new state bishop ends

Munich (dpa / lby) - Who will be the new state bishop? The deadline for nominating a successor to Heinrich Bedford-Strohm at the head of the Evangelical Church in Bavaria ends this Thursday. How many suggestions have been received should not be known until September 22nd, according to the regional church office. However, the list should remain anonymous for the time being. "The names will only be made public after the final election proposal has been made with two to five people," spokesman Johannes Minkus said on request.

Bedford-Strohm's term of office ends in October next year. A good six months earlier, on March 27, the state synod is to elect a successor.

Synod President Annekathrin Preidel said in July that she received new suggestions for suitable candidates every day. "We're practicing something typically evangelical: the church builds itself up from the bottom up." On February 10, 2023, it will be presented who the election preparation committee proposes for the bishopric.
