Bavaria: EHC Red Bull Munich expects surprises in the DEL season

Munich (dpa / lby) - The EHC Red Bull Munich expects a "hit and stab" in the coming ice hockey season. "I believe that there will be a tight season with several surprises," said sports director Christian Winkler before the start of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) this weekend. Vice-champion Munich opens the season on Thursday (7:30 p.m./Magentasport) with the Kölner Haie.

"In the DEL there are always two or three clubs that march in front. I've seen Wolfsburg in the concert for a long time and everything else has come together even more closely," Winkler continued on Monday. "With the fact that there's promotion and relegation, every game has value."

Coach Don Jackson and his team, which qualified early for the round of 16 of the Champions League, definitely want to bring back the championship title from the Eisbären Berlin. "I think we're better than last year," said Jackson. The EHC was last champion in 2018.
