Bavaria: Emmerich: The Magic Flute is the "most brilliant opera" of all time

Munich (dpa / lby) - Roland Emmerich is a big fan of Mozart's "The Magic Flute". "I think this is the most brilliant opera that has ever been written," said the director on Monday at the German premiere of the movie "The Magic Flute - The Legacy of the Magic Flute" in Munich. Emmerich does not attribute the worldwide enthusiasm for the opera to the story, but to the music itself. "It's just brilliant music."

Emmerich saw the opera for the first time when he was 15 or 16 and was immediately enthusiastic. "I was flattened. It was just magical," said the 66-year-old. He doesn't necessarily have a soft spot for classical music. "I'm more of a Neil Young fan."

"The Magic Flute - The Legacy of the Magic Flute" will be released in German cinemas on November 17th. International actors and opera singers play in the new interpretation of Mozart's classical opera, including Jack Wolfe, Iwan Rheon, Stefan Konarske, Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht and tenor Rolando Villazón. Roland Emmerich worked on the film as a producer.
