Bavaria: First day of the 9 euro ticket

For three months, citizens can travel extremely cheaply by bus and train. The demand was high nationwide - but will everyone who bought a 9-euro ticket actually use the special ticket?

Munich (dpa/lby) - After several months of preparation, citizens can now use the 9-euro ticket to travel by bus and train for three months at a reduced price. The ticket is valid for regional trains as well as municipal transport networks such as the MVV in Munich or the VGN in the greater Nuremberg area. The big question at the beginning is how big the rush will be and whether there will be overcrowded trains or buses.

According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, seven million of the special tickets have been sold throughout Germany. The ticket is valid for June, July and August.

The federal government is pursuing two goals with the discount campaign: On the one hand, citizens should be relieved of high energy costs. In addition, the traffic light coalition wants to attract new passengers to public transport.
