Bavaria: Germs in drinking water: people have to boil

Bayreuth/Pegnitz (dpa/lby) - Because of germs, people in parts of the Bayreuth district have to boil their drinking water. If the water is used for drinking or cooking, it must be boiled for ten minutes "as a precaution", the Bayreuth district office announced on Monday. Tap water can still be used for body care and toilet flushing. The health department ordered the chlorination of the contaminated drinking water.

The cities of Pegnitz and Hollfeld as well as individual towns in the district of Bamberg are affected. As the water supplier, the Zweckverband Juragruppe based in Pegnitz, informed, the germ load is presumably due to a technical defect.
