Bavaria: Greens want to nominate top personnel for the 2023 state elections

Ludwig Hartmann, Katharina Schulze - or one or one of the state chairmen? The Greens select their top personnel for the state elections. A strategic goal has already been set.

Munich (dpa/lby) - The Bavarian Green Party wants to nominate its top personnel for the state elections in autumn 2023 today. The so-called state committee wants to decide who should lead the party in the election - whether one person or a top duo. The leader of the state parliament, Ludwig Hartmann, is considered to be the only one who is over 40 years old and could therefore actually become Prime Minister according to the Bavarian Constitution. The CSU had blocked a lowering of this age limit in the state parliament. This means that parliamentary group leader Katharina Schulze is no longer a possible head of government.

The aim of the Greens is at least one government participation: "We are ready to make Bavaria fair, sustainable and successful from within the government," it said in advance. In recent polls, the Greens were around 20 percent in second place, but noticeably behind the CSU with 37 to 40 percent. A party conference on September 24th and 25th has the final say in personnel decisions.
