Bavaria: Man seeks a place to sleep with the police and ends up in prison

Memmingen (dpa / lby) - A man asked the police in Memmingen, Swabia, for a place to sleep - and was jailed because of an existing arrest warrant. According to the police on Tuesday, the man had declared at the station on Monday afternoon that he was currently homeless and that a cell as a place to sleep would be fine for him.

It later turned out that there was an arrest warrant against the 35-year-old. According to a spokeswoman, the arrest warrant came from the Dortmund public prosecutor's office and could have been averted for a payment of 3,000 euros. But this did not happen. The spokeswoman could not say why the arrest warrant existed. Officials eventually took the man to a correctional facility.
