Bavaria: Ministry: 4.2 million euros paid out for midwives

Munich (dpa / lby) - According to the Ministry of Health, the demand for the midwife bonus in Bavaria is high. Since the introduction on September 1, 2018, a good 4,500 applications have been received and around 4.2 million euros have been paid out, Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) reported on Wednesday.

According to the information, the bonus is 1000 euros and must be applied for again every year. Since January 1, 2020, a main residence in Bavaria is no longer a requirement. For example, midwives from Baden-Württemberg who work in Bavaria can also receive support.

In addition, since 2019 there has been a one-off settlement bonus for freelance midwives of 5,000 euros, said Holetschek. So far, 2.2 million euros have already been paid out.

"Midwives do great things for families before, during and after the birth," said the minister. The aim is to attract even more midwives to ensure the care of mother and child - and to relieve the midwives. Progress has been made here thanks to the midwife bonus.
