Climate activists have kept the police in Munich busy over the past few months - and are getting the bill for it.
Munich (dpa / lby) - The Munich police bill climate stickers for operations. "To date, 13 performance notices have been issued in this context by the Munich police headquarters," said a spokesman for the police headquarters. According to him, the total sum amounts to 3250 euros. Ten other procedures with a total of 2750 euros are "in the hearing phase".
The background to these bills is paragraph one of the Police Costs Ordinance. This provides "for the application of direct compulsion a fee range of 36 to 1500 euros". According to the police spokesman, these fees include the “expenditure of all authorities and bodies involved”: “This includes both the specific workload of loosening from the roadway, as well as the global effort for the appropriate safety measures on site, the provision of solvents and specially trained Staff."
According to media reports, a Jesuit priest who took part in a sticking action at the Munich Stachus complained because he was supposed to pay 250 euros for the job. "The required fee of 250 euros is well within the lower quarter of the legal framework," the police said. So far, two of the 13 "benefit notifications" that have been issued have been paid.
The money police charged activists who taped themselves to the street to protest climate change is not a fine. This may also apply to climate stickers. Courts decide that.
