Bavaria: Paulaner takes over the Oettinger site in Gotha

Munich/Gotha (dpa/lby) - The Munich Paulaner brewery wants to take over the Gotha site, which is threatened with closure, from Oettinger. As Paulaner announced on Monday, a corresponding contract was signed on Friday. It will now be submitted to the Federal Cartel Office for examination. If it agrees, the sale should be completed on January 1st. According to the company, the jobs will be preserved.

The Munich company will therefore take over the areas of production, bottling, logistics and central services with around 170 jobs. On the other hand, 23 other employees in the sales, export and marketing departments remained at Oettinger. The companies did not comment on the purchase price.

"We are very pleased that the jobs at the brewery in Gotha will be preserved with the sale to Paulaner," explained the main shareholder and managing director of Oettinger, Pia Kollmar. The sale is "an important step" in the company's restructuring. Oettinger originally announced in mid-June that it wanted to close the Gotha site at the end of the year. Paulaner justified the acquisition with increases in sales in recent years and the goal of enabling further growth.
