Hesse: Investigations against Feldmann for hit-and-run stopped

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has dropped the investigation against Mayor Peter Feldmann on suspicion of hit and run. The offense should be rated as minor (§ 153 Code of Criminal Procedure), the authority justified its decision from the past week on Monday when asked. The 64-year-old SPD politician tried to "determine and secure the civil claims arising from the accident".

According to the city, Feldmann caused damage to the body of his company car when parking in front of his apartment in July - but is said to have initially only left a note with his name.

Irrespective of the termination of the proceedings, the trial against the controversial mayor on suspicion of accepting an advantage in connection with the Awo affair begins on Tuesday. Among other things, Feldmann's wife, as head of a daycare center for workers' welfare (Awo), is said to have received a salary in excess of the collective agreement without any objective reason.

In addition, there is a voting procedure against the Frankfurt mayor, also supported by the SPD. In the referendum on November 6, 30 percent of those eligible to vote on voting day must vote against the politician. Otherwise Feldmann wants to remain in office until 2024.
