Bavaria: Police officers rammed when fleeing: trial of attempted murder

They are said to have rammed and seriously injured a police officer during an escape trip with a car. Now two men could end up behind bars for a long time because of this allegation. One of them had escaped from prison.

Hof (dpa / lby) - They raced away from the police and rammed a police officer at a roadblock. Because of this allegation, two men are sitting in the dock at the Hof district court. In the trial for attempted murder and illegal car racing, the verdict will be announced on Thursday (2 p.m.), according to a court spokesman. According to the police, the two men were at times traveling at more than 250 kilometers per hour - the driver had previously escaped from prison. The police officer suffered life-threatening injuries.

The 25 and 23-year-old suspects are said to have fled from a police check on Autobahn 9 near Bayreuth in November 2021. The driver did not have a driver's license, was under the influence of the drug THC and was driving with a stolen license plate.

Since the driver, according to the public prosecutor's office, accepted the endangerment of others, it assumes a so-called illegal motor vehicle race. The passenger is said to have instigated his buddies to do so.

When the two tried to drive around a roadblock near Münchberg (Hof district), they rammed a police officer. He suffered serious leg injuries and had to undergo months of therapy to save his foot. He is still suffering from the consequences of the incident to this day. The two men who escaped police were eventually discovered in a barn and arrested after more than 20 hours on the run.
