Bavaria: process of billing fraud in corona test centers begins

Nuremberg (dpa/lby) - Because they are said to have billed for more corona tests than were actually carried out, two operators of several test centers in Middle Franconia have to answer to the district court in Nuremberg from today. The Attorney General accuses them of billing fraud on 8 counts and attempted fraud on 20 counts.

The accused are said to have wrongly billed more than 651,000 euros from May to August 2021. However, only around 437,000 euros were paid out because the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians became aware of the investigation. An employee of the two men is also accused of aiding and abetting. Among other things, she is said to have reported the wrong numbers to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

One of the two main defendants is said to have illegally collected government corona aid of around 142,000 euros. According to the indictment, the 34-year-old is said to have claimed lost sales for a café and holiday accommodation in 2020 and 2021, although the shops no longer existed at the time. He is also said to have made false statements in a player agency for professional footballers.
