Bavaria: Rain only brings relaxation to southern Bavaria

Cooling off and rain - nature needs that in Bavaria too. But the rain has only brought a little relief to a part of the Free State for the time being.

Munich (dpa / lby) - According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the rainfall has only brought relaxation in parts of Bavaria. The risk of forest fires south of the Danube has decreased significantly and the river levels have risen again, said a spokesman for the DWD on Tuesday. But especially in Franconia, the risk of forest fires is still very high. The rain that recently came from the sky does not affect the big rivers like the Danube or the Main.

On Wednesday, Bavaria expects a mix of clouds and sun. The temperatures are expected to rise from 20 degrees in the Vogtland to 27 degrees on the Danube. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in northern Bavaria and along the eastern low mountain range.

According to the DWD spokesman, there will be sun and cumulus clouds on Thursday. There may be occasional thunderstorms in the Alps. The maximum temperatures rise a little and range between 24 and 29 degrees. On Friday, showers and sometimes heavy thunderstorms are expected in Bavaria at temperatures of 22 to 28 degrees from the west. On Saturday, too, there will be repeated showers and thunderstorms with temperatures around 25 degrees. On the other hand, according to the weather service, Sunday will be sunny and warm - the temperatures will rise to up to 28 degrees.

The Bavarian State Office for the Environment reported low water levels in Bavaria's rivers, lakes and reservoirs. Because of the drought, the water level in Bavaria's waters has continued to fall in recent weeks, according to the current report by the Bavarian low water information service.

The low water levels also restrict shipping on the Danube in Bavaria, as a spokeswoman for the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) announced. Tourist ships with passenger cabins are currently unable to navigate large parts of the free-flowing Danube in Bavaria. On the other hand, there are no restrictions on shipping on the Main, Main-Danube Canal and the dam-regulated Danube because of the locks.
