Cologne (dpa/lby) - Works by Gerhard Richter, Karel Appel, Emil Nolde and Richard Serra will be auctioned on March 29 at the German headquarters of the auction house Sotheby's in the Palais Oppenheim in Cologne. The Richter work "Green-Red-Blue 789-33" from 1993 is estimated at 350,000 to 450,000 euros. As Sotheby's announced on Friday, six works from the private collection of Ingvild Goetz from Munich will also be auctioned at the Cologne auction. One of the top works here is a color space body by Gotthard Graubner, which is estimated at 300,000 to 500,000 euros.

The Munich collector and curator Ingvild Goetz has decided to sell a total of 49 works in order to be able to use the proceeds to support a project against poverty in old age. "It's frightening that even in a country as prosperous as Germany, so many people are affected - the majority of them are women," said Goetz. "Many of them live alone and, out of shame, do not take advantage of the care and support they are entitled to."
