Munich (dpa/lby) - The designer Guido Maria Kretzschmer was honored at the cancer conference YES!CON in Munich for his commitment to fighting cancer. On Saturday, the 57-year-old accepted the YES!AWARDS.Ring of Courage from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD). This was awarded to him in particular for his program "Showtime of my Life - Stars against Cancer". Kretzschmer is also a DKMS ambassador.
Schwesig, who won the award in 2020, said: "I know from personal experience that if you get cancer, it's worth fighting the disease. But you need support." She herself had this support and wished it for everyone else with cancer. She emphasized how important it is to get preventive medical check-ups. "The earlier a change is noticed, the better the chances are," said the minister.
The topics of cancer research and digitization were the focus of YES!CON. Patron was Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD).
