Bavaria: Three years imprisonment required for vandalism drive

Fürth (dpa / lby) - A 51-year-old is to serve a prison term of three years for a serious drunken driving with his trailer truck through a residential street in Fürth, according to the public prosecutor's office. The accused was guilty, among other things, of endangering road traffic, negligent bodily harm and negligent arson, said prosecutor Danny Schaller on Monday. He should also have to give up his driver's license and be able to regain it after three years at the earliest.

The defense pleaded for a suspended sentence of one year and nine months and also for the suspension of the driver's license.

According to the indictment, the heavily intoxicated driver ran a red light in February and crashed into a car at the intersection. Then he thundered down a residential street at up to 70 km/h, rammed several parked cars, pushed some of them into house walls and then burst into flames. The fire spread to an apartment building. The residents had to use ladders to escape from the backyard over a wall. The result was five injuries, more than 30 demolished cars, damaged houses and total damage of around 800,000 euros (AZ 421 Ls 702 Js 101647/22).

The defendant admitted the allegations on the first day of the trial. According to an expert, he was less guilty at the time of the crime - because he had more than two per thousand alcohol in his blood and because he was in an exceptional emotional situation because of his wife's cancer and family stress. The District Court of Fürth wanted to announce a verdict in the afternoon.
