Bavaria: Upper Bavarian Culture Prize for Eisenreich and Burghausen

Munich (dpa / lby) - This year, the Upper Bavarian Culture Prize goes to the composer and violinist Martina Eisenreich and to the Jazz Burghausen interest group. Both the club and the musician "have rendered outstanding service to culture far beyond the borders of Upper Bavaria with their diverse work," said the award ceremony on Sunday in Seeon-Seebruck (Traunstein district).

Martina Eisenreich composes music for films, theater productions and radio plays. The first big success came in 2018: She was the first woman to receive the German film music award - for the music in the film "Tatort Waldlust". She also plays the violin in her two ensembles: the Trio Lauschgold and the Martina Eisenreich Quartet. Eisenreich has proven "that the highest cultural achievements can also emerge from smaller towns," according to Munich's former mayor, Christian Ude.

The Jazz Burghausen association, which was also honored, has been organizing numerous concerts and festivals for several years. In 1970 the jazz festival was launched, which now takes place annually in Burghausen (district of Altötting). There, the association offered space for internationally renowned jazz musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald, Albert Mangelsdorff and Count Basie. And the Wackerhalle, a permanent location for concerts, is also in the city.

The highest cultural award of the district of Upper Bavaria has been given annually since 1980 to two personalities who have made a special contribution to culture in the region. In 2021, the prize, each endowed with 5000 euros, was awarded to the professional association of Munich Schäffler and to the theater director and artistic director Jochen Schölch.
