Bavaria: Weinzierl experiences a bitter premiere at the "Club"

There are whistles from the fans. 1. FC Nürnberg missed the longed-for euphoria kick under their new coach Markus Weinzierl. The "Club" continues to slide after the home defeat against Kiel.

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - The Nuremberg fans acknowledged the botched debut of "Club" hopeful Markus Weinzierl with whistles. The former Bundesliga coach of FC Augsburg missed the mood boost he had been looking for when he made his debut on the Franconian bench. Despite an appealing first 60 minutes, 1. FC Nürnberg conceded their third defeat in a row in the 2nd Bundesliga in a 2-3 (1-0) win against Holstein Kiel. The "club" was punished for its usury and slipped to relegation rank 16.

"Of course we're disappointed, we had big plans," said Weinzierl at the press conference as successor to Robert Klauss. Despite a promising start, his team "failed to follow up."

Endurance racer Lino Tempelmann just kept going in the 39th minute and caused a little euphoria. Kiel's goalkeeper Thomas Dähne cut a bad figure with the shot from 20 meters. A rare Kiel combination via Finn Porath and Fabian Reese sank Steven Skrzybski (62nd) in front of 28,518 spectators to equalize. The "club" now lost control. Reese (66') and again Skrzybski (80') caused total Franconian disillusionment with a counterattack. Christoph Daferner's goal (90.4) came too late.

"It's a serious situation. Self-confidence doesn't grow with a game like this," admitted captain Christopher Schindler after the botched start under the new coach. The defender also recognized "a lot of positive things". "In our situation, however, we need the points to calm down."

Weinzierl was only introduced as the new Nuremberg coach on Tuesday. The long-time Augsburg Bundesliga coach didn't have time to turn a lot "on the left". With returnee Fabian Nürnberger at left-back and Erik Wekesser in front of him, he at least gave Holstein coach Marcel Rapp a little brain teaser.

The Nuremberg team switched quickly, were courageous and also created more chances. 24:12 shots on goal were the statistics at the end. Skrzybski's equalizer threw the traditional club off track. "We saw that my players started to think after the equalizer," said Weinzierl.

Nuremberg now need a sense of achievement quickly, otherwise doubts about their own abilities will continue to grow. "We are disappointed and will get the players back on their feet," announced Weinzierl. The 47-year-old knows himself that the situation is serious. "Anyone can read the table, now is an important phase until Christmas."
