After parting with his beard, Depp is almost unrecognizable. He looks significantly younger, almost reminiscent of his appearance during his early days as an actor.
But he not only parted with the beard, but also with the elegant suits he wore in court during the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Instead, he wore a t-shirt, plaid shirt, scarf and leather jacket with jeans, black shoes and lots of necklaces on the red carpet at an event hosted by radio station SiriusXM in New York. Depp, who is currently touring with rocker friend Jeff Beck, appeared in New York in a strikingly cheerful mood. Not for the first time: The actor has looked relaxed since beating Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia earlier this year.
In a 2018 op-ed piece for The Washington Post, Heard claimed she was a domestic violence survivor. The court ruled that this was defamation and ordered her to pay Depp $15 million. However, because she was also awarded $2 million in her counterclaim against Depp and due to legal restrictions in Virginia, the fine was capped at $8.35 million. In public perception, Depp emerged as the winner of the process.
