Hesse: Al-Wazir: continued operation of nuclear power plants "responsible"

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - Hesse's Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) described the planned continued operation of two nuclear power plants in the first quarter of 2023 as "responsible". "There is no additional nuclear waste, and the nuclear phase-out date has only been postponed by a few months," he said in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. "This must be weighed against the risk of instability in the German power grid, which would have serious consequences."

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) explained on Tuesday evening that he expects the two southern German nuclear power plants to continue to operate beyond the end of the year. As of today, his ministry assumes that the Isar 2 and Neckarwestheim nuclear power plants will continue to be connected to the grid in the first quarter of 2023.

He had agreed with the operators of the nuclear power plants in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg on key points for the implementation of the planned deployment reserve by mid-April 2023 at the latest. The main reason for this is the tense situation on the French electricity market.
