Hesse: Alleged IS returnee from Offenbach arrested

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - A suspected IS returnee from Offenbach was arrested on Tuesday evening, according to the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office. A spokesman said on Wednesday that she had returned to Germany via an airport in Rhineland-Palatinate. The 31-year-old woman is strongly suspected of being a member of a terrorist organization abroad. She is also accused of violating her duty of care and education. The woman is said to have traveled to Pakistan with her husband and children in 2011, where her husband joined the "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan" as a fighter.

After the man's death in a drone attack, the woman is said to have traveled to Syria with her children to join the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia. She is said to have accepted the dangers that threatened her children in the civil war zone. The woman is said to have married an IS fighter in Syria and worked in a so-called widow's office within the IS administration. After her arrest by Kurdish fighters, the woman and her children had been in a Kurdish prison camp since February 2019, it said. It should be presented to the investigating judge at the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday.
