Hesse: Big TV stage for Darmstadt 98: Warming is long gone

Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) - Second division leaders SV Darmstadt 98 can expect a foretaste of what the coming season could be like: full stadium, glorious opponents, floodlights, huge attention. On Tuesday evening (8.45 p.m. / ARD and Sky), the lilies welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach with top striker Marcus Thuram and want to cause a sensation in the DFB Cup after the strong second division weeks. "We're playing against a top team with outstanding individual players. It should be fun for my team to be able to compete with guys like that," said head coach Torsten Lieberknecht on Monday.

Millions of viewers should tune in on ARD when the top second division team challenges the favorites in the second round. "The fact is that we are convinced of ourselves. We also have our strengths that we want to bring to the pitch. Of course we have to do the work together against the ball. But tomorrow we also want to show what makes our game special", added Lieberknecht. A victory for the in-form Hessians would not be a huge surprise based on recent impressions.

Striker Magnus Warming cannot help on the big cup evening. "Warming has torn his syndesmosis ligament and will miss the rest of the first half of the season. We are currently checking whether he needs to undergo surgery," commented Lieberknecht. The Dane had been used in all twelve second division games of the season so far.
