Hesse: Bombs built from chip packs: process in Frankfurt

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Bomb construction in the children's room: In the trial against the alleged right-wing extremist Marvin E., the accused reported how he had built and stored explosive devices at his home. The 20-year-old from northern Hesse has to answer to the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court for attempting to found a terrorist organization and preparing for a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state. The federal prosecutor accuses E. of having planned attacks with firearms and explosive devices for right-wing extremist motives.

Photos from the 20-year-old's room were shown in the courtroom on Friday, and the moon and star wallpaper from childhood can still be seen on one wall. Wires are piling up on tables, and a home-made explosive lies in a drawer. More explosive devices with steel balls were discovered in a suitcase.

The defendant said that he had ordered the instructions from the YouTube video platform and ordered some of the components online. Sometimes he also used the cardboard tube from a packet of chips or tubes from an insect hotel, and a coffee grinder was used to mix the ingredients. He failed to build a rocket, reported E.

How and where exactly the home-made explosive devices were to be used had not yet been worked out in detail, the accused said. He had had several mind games, including an attack on the Bundestag. E. had also watched videos of rampages. The aim would have been to kill "enemies" together with others, Jews, blacks and foreigners, perhaps also people from the left spectrum, as E. said when asked.

According to the indictment, E. is said to have searched social media for weeks for like-minded people for a terrorist organization. The Kassel public prosecutor's office has already investigated the young man for incitement to hatred. Marvin E. has been in custody since September 2021.
