Hesse: Covid compensation payments: Verbund calls for reintroduction

Wetzlar (dpa / lhe) - The high number of corona cases also burdens the hospitals under public law. Numerous clinics no longer have capacity due to the large number of corona patients and staff failures, the Hesse Clinic Association announced on Thursday in Wetzlar. He represents the hospitals owned by cities and counties.

Clemens Maurer, CEO of the clinic group, called for the reintroduction of the Covid surcharges and compensation payments that expired in the first half of the year, as well as exceptions for staffing. The deputy chairman, Achim Neyer, said: "As hospitals, we feel left alone by politics." On the one hand, there are strict specifications and requirements, but no compensation for the effort.

"Most hospitals - especially the municipal and public hospitals in the Hesse clinic group - are not profit-oriented, but they too have to generate profits from the treatments in order to cover the costs that are not otherwise financed," explained Managing Director Reinhard Schaffert. In the heavily regulated healthcare system, rising costs cannot be passed on to consumers via prices. The deficit cannot be permanently compensated for by the municipalities at the expense of the taxpayer.
