Hesse: Customs confiscated more than 2,100 counterfeit luxury watches

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Customs officers confiscated a freight shipment with more than 2100 counterfeit luxury watches at Frankfurt Airport. According to the Frankfurt main customs office, if they were originals, they would have a value of around 170 million euros. The twelve packages came from Hong Kong and were to be delivered to North Macedonia via Germany's largest airport.

Accordingly, the eleven affected brand owners have now confirmed that the watches seized last Thursday (October 24) are undoubtedly counterfeits. "Often counterfeit watches cannot be recognized at first glance," said a customs spokeswoman in Frankfurt on Thursday. The counterfeit watches are now to be destroyed.

According to its own statement, the main customs office in Frankfurt opened almost 9,000 border seizure procedures last year. More than 256,000 plagiarisms were secured. 83 percent of them came from China.
