Hesse: drunk on the wrong lane of the highway: woman accused

Frankfurt am Main (dpa/lhe) - After a serious car accident, the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office brought charges against an alleged wrong-way driver. The 46-year-old accused is said to have drunk on the A5 against the direction of travel and have deliberately endangered the lives of road users, as a spokeswoman said. The woman drove her car into a car with four occupants who were seriously injured by the impact. The charge includes attempted murder.

In January of this year, the accused drove against the specified direction of travel at the Frankfurt-Westhafen junction onto the Autobahn 5 in the direction of Darmstadt. According to the indictment, she is said to have "accepted the killing of herself and other road users". A blood test showed a value of at least 2.11 per thousand in the woman.

It also turned out that the 46-year-old had caused another accident on the same day. She is said to have hit a car with her car when turning and left the scene of the accident without permission. In May 2022, the district court in Frankfurt-Höchst therefore sentenced her to a fine of 2,000 euros. In addition, her driver's license was revoked for twelve months.

The accused is currently at large. According to the public prosecutor's office, she did not want to comment on the matter. The district court has not yet set a hearing date.
